216 Days To Go!

Just 2.5 hours from downtown Bangkok, Khao Yai is a mountain escape filled with jungle, waterfalls, and cooler weather—yes, you might actually need a sweater at night! It’s home to Thailand’s oldest national park, local wineries, and quirky Euro-inspired spots. Perfect for nature lovers, wine sippers, and anyone needing a breath of fresh air.

What to do here:

Khao Yai National Park:

The heart of the region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—this park is all about waterfalls, wildlife, and fresh mountain air. Whether you're hiking to Haew Suwat Waterfall (yes, the one from The Beach movie) or spotting wild elephants and gibbons, it’s an unforgettable nature escape. Bring sneakers, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure.

Khao Yai Art Museum:

A quiet gem in the area, this museum features contemporary Thai art in a beautifully designed space. A perfect contrast to all the food and nature—calm, creative, and very cool. Bonus: The grounds are lovely for a walk afterward.

Toscana Valley:

Yes, someone really went and built a full-on Tuscan village in the middle of Khao Yai—and it’s amazing. Think cobblestone streets, Italian villas, pine trees, and their very own version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa (because… why not?). It’s part luxury resort, part architectural fantasy, and a total vibe for a lazy afternoon stroll, scenic lunch, or that “wait, are we in Italy?” Instagram moment.

The Chocolate Factory:

Perfect for a sweet stop! This chic little café and shop offers handmade chocolates, pastries, and desserts—with a view. It’s also a great place to pick up cute gifts or fuel up after a wine tasting. (Pro tip: Try the lava cake.)

Khao Yai’s Wine Country:

Yes—Thailand has wine country, and it’s beautiful. The cool climate and rolling hills of Khao Yai make it a surprising but perfect spot for vineyards, and visiting them is one of the most relaxing (and delicious) ways to spend a day here. Will and Anton recommend a slow afternoon of wine tastings, good food, and sweeping views. Here are three popular Wine Yards: Issara Estates Winery, Grand Monte and PB Valley.
